Comment on “Marlborough Express still ignores threats of legal action”

One of the pro-theatre commenters has made some assumptions about Corey Hebberd that are untrue.

At no point has Corey Hebberd contacted Whaleoil. His emails, and the late night Andrew Williamseque threatening emails from Mayor Sowman, came through the tipline from several anonymous sources.

At Whaleoil we know a smear campaign when we see one. Corey Hebberd asked a series of reasonable questions in his capacity as spokesman for the Ratepayers’ Association. In response he received angry late-night emails threatening him with legal action and demanding he name a time to meet the mayor and the council funded lawyer. This is not a smear campaign.

As far as Whaleoil knows Corey Hebberd is true to his word, and is not interested in personal smears. Our sources in Marlborough would surprise the theatre trust, the Marlborough Express and the mayor. There are significant numbers of people in Marlborough who think the Mayor has failed in his duty to be fiscally prudent, and that the Theatre Trust’s inability to stick to costings needs to see the light of day.

There are also a number of people in the media in Marlborough who are disgusted that the Marlborough Express will not publish the mayor’s late-night threatening emails.
