Being a vocal critic of the ideology of Islam comes at a great personal cost

I admire commentators, cartoonists and politicians who are brave enough to tell the truth. No one wants to hear the truth as comforting lies are much nicer. People who tell the truth get ridiculed and called names, and if you are criticising Islam then death threats and assassination are a very real and constant danger.

Every single critic of Islam whom I follow (and there are dozens of them) has had actual attempts on their life and/or death threats. Theo van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who collaborated on a short movie about the oppression of women under Islam, was assassinated after the documentary sparked controversy. He was stabbed to death in the street in his own country by a Muslim who was outraged by the film.

Andrew Bolt has been forced to move his children to another home after receiving “a string of death threats” from an alleged supporter of Islamic State.

In an interview on his Sky News program with One Nation spokeswoman Pauline Hanson, the conservative commentator revealed the lives of his family had been threatened yesterday, forcing him to move his children to keep them safe.

“I spent some of my day moving my kids out of my home after yet another death threat from an islamist supporter of the Islamic state,” he said. “It’s been a very stressful day.”

In 1997, Ms Hanson recorded a video which was to be screened to One Nation members and supporters in the event of her assassination, following claims that she and her daughter had received anonymous death threats.

The 12-minute tape started off with the following message: “Fellow Australians, if you are seeing me now, it means I have been murdered. Do not let my passing distract you for even a moment.”

On 10 November 2004, two suspected attackers were captured after an hour-long siege of a building in The Hague. They were in possession of three grenades and were accused of planning to murder Wilders as well as a fellow MP, Ayaan Hirsi Ali.The suspects were presumed to be members of what the Dutch intelligence agency, the General Intelligence and Security Service, has termed the Hofstadgroep. Since this incident Wilders has been under constant security protection because of frequent threats to his life. In September 2007, a Dutch woman was sentenced to a one-year prison term for sending more than 100 threatening emails to Wilders. In 2009, a rapper from Rotterdam was sentenced to 80 hours community service and a two-month suspended jail term for threatening Wilders in a rap song. Wilders was listed as the most threatened politician in the Netherlands in 2008.

Wilders is said to have been “deprived… of a personal life for his… hatred of Islam”.He is constantly accompanied by a permanent security detail of about six plainclothes police officers, and does not receive visitors unless they are cleared in advance, thoroughly searched, and escorted at all times. He lives in a state-provided safe house which is outfitted to be bulletproof, is heavily guarded by police, and has a panic room. He is driven from his home to his offices in parliament in an armored police vehicle, and wears a bulletproof vest

Ayaan Hirsi Ali born Ayaan Hirsi Magan, on 13 November 1969) is a Dutch-American activist, author, and former politician of Somali origin. She is a leading opponent of female genital mutilation, and calls for a reformation of Islam. She is supportive of women’s rights and is an atheist. Her latest book was released in 2015 and is called: Heretic: Why Islam Needs a Reformation Now.

…Ayaan has been a vocal critic of Islam. In 2004, she collaborated on a short movie with Theo van Gogh, entitled Submission, the English rendering of the word “Islam”, a film about the oppression of women under Islam. The documentary sparked controversy, which resulted in death threats against the two and the eventual assassination of Van Gogh later that year by Mohammed Bouyeri, a second-generation migrant from Morocco. In a 2007 interview, she described Islam as an “enemy” that needs to be defeated before peace can be achieved. But in her latest book Heretic (2015) she moderated her views of Islam and now calls for a reform of the religion by supporting reformist Muslims.

In 2005, Hirsi Ali was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. She has also received several awards, including a free speech award from the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, the Swedish Liberal Party’s Democracy Prize, and the Moral Courage Award for commitment to conflict resolution, ethics, and world citizenship. Hirsi Ali has published two autobiographies: in 2006 and 2010.

A number of cartoonists have had to go into hiding (some permanently)and others have been slaughtered.

I don’t know about you but if someone is risking their life to tell me something then I listen carefully. If they are prepared to risk their life in order to get a message out, then that message must be pretty important. Why would anyone put up with the death threats and the stress if they didn’t believe 100% that what they were telling you is vitally important and the truth?
