Turns out, police killed the nicest man in all of Hamilton; perhaps New Zealand

A 36-year-old Hamilton man was shot dead last night as police searched a possible gang premises involved in the supply of methamphetamine and firearms.

Police say the man picked up a long-barrelled firearm and cocked it “in very close proximity” to officers at about 6.45 last night.

People at the scene identified the shot man as Nick Marshall.

His father Nelson Marshall said on Facebook: “Not a good day to say the least. The police smashed my son’s door down and shot him dead tonight.

“He was one of the gentlest persons I know.”

Not to make light of an awful situation, but:

  • gang
  • meth
  • presents firearm at police

Apparently he was just lovely.

So, Dad says he’s gentle, and his old lady says he was unarmed.

So, the Hamilton cops broke into someone’s home and executed a nice unarmed man without cause.

Boreham said police were searching the property in relation to an ongoing investigation into the supply of methamphetamine and firearms.

He said the operation was a long time in the planning.

Information gathered through the course of the investigation suggested possible gang connections to the address, he said.

“Upon entry to the building, officers announced that they were armed police,” Boreham said.

He said a man inside the building picked up a long-barreled firearm and cocked it “in very close proximity” to police.

“Despite being called upon multiple times, he continued to present the firearm and was subsequently shot.”
