So government doesn’t reduce immigration to ease pressure.  Instead they want to forcibly take land from its owners.

Tough issue this one – however I think you could classify the civil and services works required for a large housing area development as major public infrastructure. Semantics by Hooton but a good jibe all the same.

    • NahYeah

It’s not semantics, I don’t think there is any provision in the Public Works Act to take land for housing.

No there’s not, which is why they have to make it up as they go along. If it was Labour doing it, we’d be up in arms about the socialist tossers. Frankly I’m having the same reaction even though its National. We pay the Council handsomely to sort this type of thing out decades in advance so appropriation shouldn’t have to happen. Just shows how truly and utterly miserably they’ve failed at carrying out their duties.

The housing issue well on way to being sorted, Indian couple who came here for work he is earning $120,000 pa can’t buy house in Auckland so heading to Wellington. The ACexit is starting. Wellington here we come. (Might be a bit slow won’t happen overnight but it will happen, so I was led to believe of the hair advert back in the day – still waiting)

Can’t afford to buy in Auckland? Where have they been looking? Perhaps in and around the area they are currently renting (Epsom).
Newsflash – the majority of NZers can’t afford to live there either.
He has admitted they can afford Pukekohe (still Auckland) and where his friends have recently bought but he doesn’t want to commute? So rather than commute he is choosing to relocate his family 600+kms away?
Somehow, I think there is more to this story.

Another non-story brought to you by a newspaper. A total non-event.

And that, is straight economics, the market is working. Can’t afford steak, try mince or sausages, or noodles and an apple. Cant afford a home in Auckland, try Wellington or Christchurch. Another alternative, is a second job, both parents working, and so on, but it’s personal choice.

The best of Twitterazzi? Perhaps somebody needs to adjust their search filter.

  • Catriona

Oh well, we’re in trouble then because we live on 2600sqm. And not in Auckland, thank goodness. But who knows, Nick Smith might just cast his net far and wide and head down country.

There’s no need to take land from land bankers. Just buy and then designate the bigger land parcel next door for housing and watch the land banker quickly get on with developing what he has. That’s what removing the rural urban limit will do.

As Lance Corporal Jones used to say…..
