Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Whaleoil continues to be the go-to place for journalists in search of ideas and inspiration. Before the hack most were professional enough to acknowledge the source, citing Cameron Slater or the blog Whaleoil but then it became ” a blog ” and finally radio silence descended.

Orders had come from on high to be seen to have nothing to do with us, so for a time the weary journalists had to turn to twitter and facebook for ‘ inspiration.’ Enough time has passed now and old habits die hard.

Thanks ” A newspaper. ” I’m sincerely flattered.
