Labour’s Stuart Nash has decided to tone down his criticism of the police after a complaint from the deputy commissioner.

Mr Nash’s recent criticism of Eastern District Commander Sandra Venables and policing in Gisborne, Napier and Hastings drew a response from Deputy Commissioner Viv Rickard.

His letter to Labour leader Andrew Little was posted on the internal police bulletin board, Fairfax reports.

Mr Nash says he’s talked to Mr Little about it and decided not to again refer to the commander by name.

Mr Little says Mr Nash has agreed to keep his focus on Police Minister Judith Collins.

He tried that, and found it was easier to rip on the cops because they aren’t allowed to fight back.

Apologising to women for being honest about their appearance, and tail between the leg because now he has to go back to attacking Judith Collins instead of the police.

He clearly had a bit of a week.

If he’s not careful, he’ll be apologising for being a man next!
