NZRU boss Steve Tew said the investigation found allegations from witnesses “were not substantiated”, meaning more serious action would not be taken against individual players.

So no licking, no biting, no grabbing, no rough handling could be “substantiated”?

We are far from satisfied that as a collective our players are blameless… It was a reckless decision,” he said.

Tew added the decisions behind both post-season celebrations, were a black mark on rugby and on the Chiefs.

The players issued an apology to all those affected.

The investigation was launched after Scarlette, an adult entertainer at the centre of the drama, told media of numerous, unconfirmed allegations of indecent treatment from players during their end-of-season celebrations at the Okoroire hot pools last month.

A Chiefs player allegedly offered the stripper a payment of $50 to perform an indecent act on her, which she initially agreed to.

It was a clusterwhatsit.   The whole case was a media beat up.

And now the players have a “black mark” on their employment records.

What a colossal waste of time and energy.

No police charges were laid.  The stripper was fired from her job for not following standard professional protocols.  And somehow we are meant to be on the stripper’s side because “it is never OK”.

No, of course it isn’t, but good grief she was selling it for $50 and things got out of hand.

There are no winners here.  Only losers.
