Shaykh Anwar Sahib has shut down the at-Taqwa YouTube channel so it is harder now to see the hate that he thinks is appropriate for even public consumption. The widely (except for Labour and the Greens) condemned Auckland hate preacher was exposed in January by Whaleoil for having known Islamic State supporters in his mosque (masjid).
Before the videos were taken down, we found one more clip of interest.
It shows the radical Shaykh admitting that he knew about contact that was made by a ‘sister’ trying to warn the NZ Herald that the masjid promotes terror. We can only hope that she wasn’t beaten with a hammer when she got home.
It turns out, the NZ Herald was told about this in May 2015, but did nothing. And they continue to do almost nothing – the NZ Herald gave only 40 words of their paper to the story that Shaykh Sahib was dismissed as a senior religious leader of FIANZ.
Compare that to the multiple op-eds and articles about Bishop Brian Tamaki.
If the NZ Herald had bothered to follow up the tip, they might have found the connection, the YouTube videos with the antisemitism and misogyny, and they would have been the ones to break the story, not Whaleoil.
“…from this masjid, and it is even worse that, not from the brother’s side but from the sister’s side, somebody wrote to The NZ Herald accusing one of the individuals who almost never comes to this masjid – that is associated to this masjid – that this masjid promotes terrorism and that person should be deported. She left even her name and her mobile number. The information came to me through [name]…”
So, it looks like the NZ Herald has disclosed a confidential source and exposed them to harm. That is an outrage.
