Geoff says New Zealand no better morally than a terrorist

Geoff Orchard from Ohaupo thinks that “the details” don’t matter and that morally New Zealand is no better than the evil Manchester bomber.

” And, for the record, we as a country are no better. Children were killed in Afghanistan according to Nicky Hager. The details do not matter.”

I wonder if any of his Lions Club colleagues or business partners share his lack of sympathy at a “macro level” for the teenagers ripped apart by nails?

It is a dangerous moral game that he plays by saying that because civilians have been caught in the crossfire during war in the past a deliberate atrocity against civilians by a terrorist can be ignored and no sympathy given.
” I find myself struggling to feel any sympathy for the victims. At a personal level, yes, but at a Macro level not even a perhaps.”
Civilians being killed during wartime is a fact of war. Soldiers being killed by “friendly fire” is also a fact of war. There is a world of difference between civilians being killed or injured in the middle of a war between two armies and the deliberate targeting of civilians in a country that is not at war by a terrorist. A terrorist does not accidentally kill civilians while attempting to kill combatants. Terrorism targets civilians deliberately. This moral difference seems to be a difficult thing for Mr Orchard to grasp at any level, Macro or otherwise.
