Day Two of Craig v Slater was very interesting

Day Two:

Colin Craig spent almost the whole day being cross-examined by Cameron Slater’s Barrister Brian Henry. Here is a brief summary of just a few of the questions that were asked and some of the answers that were given. If the responses are not in direct quotes then I am summarising what was said.

Q: Was Mr Jordan Williams ” a political hanger-on?”

A: “No.”

Q: In August 2011 when you employed your Press Secretary how old were you and how old was she?

A: 43 (Mr Craig) 29 ( Ms MacGregor)

Q: Why did you think that it was appropriate to take your Press Secretary out to dinner away from Newmarket six times instead of having takeaways when you were working late over a period of three weeks?

A: Four of the meals were at local restaurants and only two were in the city one of which was in Mission Bay.

Q: This letter to your Press Secretary was written 2nd Novemeber 2011 and it starts “Dear Rach.” Where was your wife when you were writing this letter?

Q: You mentioned the following questions in your letter to your Press Secretary that you said others had asked you.

  1. Are you having an affair?
  2. Do you have a special relationship with her?
  3. Have you kissed her?

Why did you think that it was appropriate to mention these things to an employee after only six weeks employment?

Q: Why are you writing a letter in the middle of the night to your Press Secretary?

Q: In your letter you referred to the ” low cut top incident.” You admitted that you looked down her top and apologised for doing that.”Do you believe that any woman would find it appropriate for her boss to talk about looking down her top?”

A: ” This was not a purely working relationship.” It wasn’t a purely work situation I wrote as a friend not as a boss.

Q: Weren’t there two relationships? One professional and one personal/ friendship?

A: ” They overlapped.”

Q: Do you accept that looking down someone’s top is sexual?

A: ” I suppose so.”
