Are Climate change skeptics ignorant of science?

With President Trump pulling America out of the Paris accord climate change is once again on everyone’s lips. Man-made global warming promoters often accuse people who disagree with them of being ignorant of scientific facts and even anti-science. A recent study put that theory to the test. Both warmists and climate change skeptics took a science quiz. Who do you think on average got the highest scores, the warmists or the skeptics?

….the findings of a study show that global warming skeptics score better on climate science questions than those who believe man is causing the planet to warm through the combustion of fossil fuels.
A paper that will appear in the journal Advances in Political Psychology says that, on average, skeptics got 4.5 questions right while the followers of the faith averaged four correct answers. This doesn’t mean skeptics are more informed; it just means they’re not poorly informed, which is what alarmists want us all to believe.

The paper was written by Yale Law School professor Dan Kahan, not a skeptic looking for a particular outcome. He quizzed about 2,000 people with nine questions, asking about such issues as melting North Pole ice and skin cancer risk in a supposedly warming world….
He followed that…with a blog post saying “I don’t think it is useful at all to characterize as ‘anti-science’ the 50% of U.S. general population who, using exactly the same forms of reasoning as those who conclude that best evidence supports belief in AGW, conclude that the best evidence doesn’t support it.”

If you want to test your Climate IQ I have the perfect quiz for you to take.

It will ask you questions like:

  • How does the greenhouse effect work? What is the most potent greenhouse gas?
  • What is the most potent greenhouse gas?
  • How much have global average temperatures increased in the last century?

As Dan Kahan pointed out getting most of these questions right does not necessarily mean that a person will agree with man-made global warming. Like all things in life people given the exact same facts can still come to completely different conclusions. Perhaps we disagree with each other not because we are ignorant of science but because we are actually well informed and have formed different opinions from the exact same data.
