NEXT! Jacinda. Hit Refresh

A Whaleoil reader has to negotiate the NEXT magazine adverts as he makes his way to his pie and coke for the day and writes

Nothing subtle about it, really, is there?

It seems mind numbing that the Labour party rainbow and women’s factions are willing to put up with this blatant sexism.

Nobody so far has said Jacinda has earned it, or deserves it.

And the media are behind it saying this is just what Labour needs.  To soften up its image.  To counterbalance Angry Andy.

She dutifully goes along with it as a team player, but inside she must be crying.  After all that grooming, all that hope, and all the promise of one day becoming Helen 2.0, all she’s being used for is her media-friendly frontage.

The most important question from a political point of view is:  Will this earn Labour more votes?

Will the audiences of Women’s magazines be so beguiled by the nice fluffy Jacinda pieces that they will magically forget about the Nasty Party including Little, Twyford, Parker … oh hell, it would be easier to list the ones that are nice.

And that, I guess, is the Hail Mary Labour are trying to achieve with Jacinda.   But to ask her to turn around all the negativity, anger and bile spewed forth by her colleagues is simply wishful thinking.
