Trump critics mock his body and looks with impunity

The latest storm in a teacup about President Trump is because of the following tweet.

The outcry has been centred on the spin that the tweet is attacking a woman on the basis of her looks.

Republican Rep Lynn Jenkins of Kansas said on Twitter: “This is not okay. As a female in politics I am often criticised for my looks. We should be working to empower women.”

Apparently, it is quite okay to make fun of a male politician’s looks if that politician is President Trump. It is time for a stroll down memory lane as well as a look at a more recent New Zealand example.

The above tweet went viral and was even featured on New Zealand’s latest political show Banter where the host Tim Batt referred to Trump as “a piece of shit” and when showing the photo referred to him as old Donald Rump. He even has a segment dedicated to him called the Trump Dump. The first panellist to laugh at the photo of Trump playing tennis was none other than Jacinda Ardern who seemed quite comfortable mocking a male politician for the size of his bottom.

Making fun of male politicians for their looks (especially if they are white politicians) has always been socially acceptable. How many times has Trump been mocked for his skin and his hair?

Isn’t it both sexist and hypocritical to mock his looks day in and day out but complain if he says anything about a woman’s looks?
