Face of the Day

Dr Bryce Edwards has presented himself as an independent and objective observer of politics in New Zealand.  It’s something that would be expected of him as a politics lecturer.

Which is why his latest article for the NZ Herald appeared to have a bit of a confident headline:

At some point, the hubris must have weighed heavy on his mind, and the headline was changed to

Even more idiotically, you can rule out a Labour-NZ First government, because they simply do not have the numbers to form a government.

Even with two extra MPs after the most positive case of specials going all to the left, only Winston with a serious head injury would consider going into government with the Green party, so they would have to just be happy with confidence and supply.

This would leave Labour and NZ First as one of the least stable minority governments we have seen.  The upshot would be that the back benchers in either party will have a disproportionate amount of power.  Winston has previously been embarrassed by political lightweights in his own caucus holding him to ransom.  He won’t go there again.

The media, the Twitterati and even luminaries like Dr Bryce Edwards are still letting what they want to happen get in the way of their “independent” commentary.

Luckily for most of our readers, what will happen is what we want to happen, so we are less exposed.  Proper analysis, and we tell you why we think what we think.

But.  You know.  Get ready for a Labour-NZ First government.   Ok Bryce.  Good-o.
