Face of the Day

Labour’s [coalition] negotiating team will be led by Jacinda Ardern and deputy leader Kelvin Davis.

Ms Ardern hasn’t spoken directly to Winston Peters yet, saying that she respects that time and space is needed.

“We’re willing and available when he is ready,” she said. …

Mr Davis indicated that he’d be willing to give up the role of Deputy Prime Minister if Labour formed a government with NZ First.

“My priority is to make sure that Jacinda Ardern is the Prime Minister, that’s my main focus so if it has to be it has to be,” he said.

These two would have to be some of the poorest candidates to send into a coalition negotiation against Winston Peters.  They’ll get skinned alive.

The only way I can see this making sense (other than incompetence)  is that Labour have decided to give Winston whatever it takes, and the best way to do that is to provide zero resistance.

Winston may want to go with National, but Labour may try to make it impossible by letting Winston have whatever he wants.  Except for PM.  But he won’t get that from National either.
