Greens policy will rack up the rents for tenants

The Greens want to increase the rights of tenants:

The Green Party want to extend the rights of renters by bringing in three-year standard tenancies and limiting rent increases to once a year.

It said more than half the population was now renting and people deserved the same standards as those who owned a home.

The party wants to introduce a warrant of fitness for rentals and provide insulation subsidies.

Green Party leader James Shaw said he did not believe the changes would drive up rent prices.

I’ve got news for you James, and it is all bad.

The Greens never think through the consequences.  Adults do, children don’t.  They just “want it”. Well, those things come at a cost…and tenants will always pay.

“There are a lot of increases that are unjustified at the moment – that are simply because we are in a very compressed market so most landlords will be able to absorb that cost.

“Most of the landlords that we have spoken to are doing these sorts of things anyway so it’s not going to affect them,” Mr Shaw said.

They aren’t speaking to the right landlords. They are chatting with concern trolls. Any landlord worth their salt will put up rents to cover additional costs and removal of landlord rights.

The party would also professionalise renting by requiring landlord registration and reciprocal maintenance bonds from landlords.

The Labour Party has also pledged to limit rent increases to once a year instead of the current six months.

These policy changes create a huge risk for landlords. With high risks comes high pricing. Banks do this with credit cards. This will be the same. Increased risk, reduced rights, all that does is lead to higher rents and those at the bottom will be squeezed out again, exacerbating the so-called housing crisis.

Greens are like the guests entering Fantasy Island.  They always WANT something, and it takes the whole episode to find out what the COST of it is.

Greens have never been more than commie protesters that managed to make a party…and they are wedded to propping up a Labour led government. Beware what you vote for.
