No French Fries for you!

I wonder if the Restaurant owner on Waiheke Island who refuses to sell adults french fries on their own has ever watched Seinfeld? There was a running gag on Seinfeld that involved a man they called the Soup Nazi. If the customers did not do what he wanted them to do he would refuse to sell them any soup. This did not put off his customers though because he served the best soup in New York.

What very few people know about that Seinfeld character is that he was based on a real person who not only sold the best soup in New York he even looked like the actor who played him.

A restaurant on Auckland’s Waiheke Island refuses to sell fries as a single item to adults.

The only people who can get a bowl of the snack at The Courtyard Restaurant and Garden Bar, in Oneroa, are children.

“No chips for you!” PHOTO DIANA WORTHY/STUFF Brent Mills with a bag of frozen chips that gets little use.

Restaurant owner Brent Mills believes fries are not necessary for people to enjoy a meal – “But I’m not a chip Nazi,” he says.

Hmmm, it sounds like Brent knows all about Seinfeld. “No chips for you!”

The Courtyard’s burgers are served with fries but adult diners can’t order them as a separate item.

“I don’t think chips complement a meal,” Mills said.

[…] Mills has been urging adult customers to try the restaurant’s fried brussels sprouts, which he said were in season and had become a firm favourite with regulars.

[…] “We had a couple in recently like that so I sent over a free bowl and they liked them so much, they ordered two more.

[…] Mills, who bought the Oneroa business in November 2016, said he applied the same ‘no chips’ rule to his restaurants in Bali and at Bondi, Australia.
