Winston calls out Gower and Newshub for #fakenews

Winston Peters is grumpy with Patrick Gower…and telling everyone about it:

Whatever Patrick Gower and the Newshub producers are on, they should get off it.

Their TV news broadcasts about New Zealand First the last two nights have been fiction, and grossly misleading. I will not be explaining what parts are fictional. Some of it is barefaced lies.

Newshub is claiming sources that don’t exist, and is merely toying with viewers and presenting make believe instead of facts. It’s the very worst form of journalism and Newshub is not the only one doing it – sad to say.

None of it will have any bearing on New Zealand First in the coming talks around the establishment of the next government.

It isn’t just Gower claiming “sources close to Winston”, other senior journalists in the gallery have been making the same claims to me. I usually just laugh in their faces as they seek to push Winston Peters one way or the other with their silly machinations.

After reading that Facebook post I immediately wanted to know what Newshub had been reporting about Winston Peters over the past 48 hours so that I could try to work out what parts were likely to be Fake News. There was a lot to choose from when I searched on Tuesday night and one article had already been written in response to his outburst on Facebook only an hour before. ” Winston Peters hits back at leak claiming ‘revenge’ plans”.

What this really is about is the Media party with their noses out of joint because Saint Jacinda didn’t get there in her own right. So, they are trying to manipulate the election with grandstanding claims about leaks here or there.

It is all just fake news. These guys aren’t talking to people close to Winston. I should know.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story. When he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet. Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet and, as a result, he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist who takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.

Love him or loathe him, you can’t ignore him.
