Blenheim City Council continue to impress

You may know them from their earlier work, such as their World Class Theatre, or perhaps more recently from their brand new bus shelter with a big hole in the roof.

Today, you can marvel at the Marlborough Council’s self-righteousness.  Again.

Most consider the cost for a bus shelter with a large round hole in the roof to be outrageous. Some regard it as a joke and a few state that it is as yet unfinished albeit commissioned by the Deputy Mayor last week.

According to the latest MBIE statistics the mean property price for Marlborough is $408,000.00

The Deputy Mayor is on record stating this structure cost ratepayers $300,000 suggesting it has cost more than many Marlborough properties below the mean value.

When I inadvertently asked a member of MDC’s executive, Jamie Lyall, for a breakdown on the costs this is the response I received:-

Unfortunately I have had no involvement in this project whatsoever.
I would have enjoyed the dialogue about procurement and tendering based on your interesting interpretations and experience in this field.

Surprisingly (you may think) I also had no involvement with the Picton bus stop but yes I am aware of the media controversy with that project.

Again……… I would have looked forward to the opportunity to discuss that project with you also.

Being a simple man with a MBA (Masters in Business Administration) I suspect that I will get the opportunity to discuss future projects with you when you find one I have been involved with.

Maybe I have a target on my back?

Until then………… I suspect that you will continue to occupy officers time and ratepayers money by revisiting completed projects and challenging those that have been involved.

Have an enjoyable weekend as I know I will after a long week of serving the Marlborough Community.

Interestingly some of our community appreciate the good work staff and councillors do.

It never hurts to give thanks where thanks are due.

I will forward your email to the Council Manager responsible with delivering the Railway Station project on behalf of Council.

Regards Jamie

I am still waiting for the “project owner” to provide some very simple answers.

Well at least he got belittling sarcasm to keep him warm in the meantime.
