What is the real difference between a Sex robot and a Sex worker?

Sex robot reclined on a bed

Disclaimer: I am going to be blunt while discussing sex workers and sex robots. Do not read on if this is not your cup of tea.

We now live in a brave new world where not only do we have realistic life-sized sex dolls we also have sex robots that can speak and respond to touch. Prostitutes in Barcelona where the world’s first ever sex robot brothel opened objected strongly and forced the brothel to relocate to a secret location.

The flesh and blood prostitutes’ main reason for objecting to the sex dolls is not the main reason that immediately springs to mind. I would have thought that they would object to the competition being able to offer the same services at a discounted rate. Robot prostitutes, after all, do not need to be paid and can be used over and over again 24/7 with no need to stop for rest or food.

Sex dolls and sex robots in my mind are the fantasy end of the masturbation spectrum. I don’t believe that men pay to have sex with prostitutes, they use them to masturbate into and they pay to be able to leave afterwards. Masturbation has nothing to do with feelings and everything to do with fantasy.

Flesh and blood sex workers are like porn while sex dolls and sex robots are like 3D or cartoon porn. One of the benefits of watching cartoon porn is the knowledge that it is pure fantasy and that no human beings have been used or harmed during the making of it. Cartoon porn is like written erotica. It is designed to excite the viewer by engaging their biggest sex organ which is their brain.

Anyway, let’s get back to the news story about the sex workers who objected to the sex robot brothel and their main reason for objecting to it.

[…] Prostitutes who work in the city with Aprosex – the Association of Sex Professionals – objected saying a doll cannot match the services of a real person and denigrates real sex workers to merely being an object.

A statement on their website read: “The sex-affection of a person can not be provided by a doll. They are different and compatible services. They do not communicate.

“They do not listen to you or caress you, they do not comfort you or look at you. They do not give you their opinion or drink a glass of champagne with you.”

Janet, a prostitute with over 30 years in the industry, who works in the city’s Raval district said: “It is another strategy of the patriarchy that presents us as objects without rights or soul. A privilege of the wealthy classes.”

I have heard it all now. A feminist prostitute. She makes her money off the “so-called patriarchy” while ignoring the implicit requirement to objectify herself as a sex object to be used by men for their sexual gratification in exchange for money. When a client has masturbated into a sex doll/robot made of rubber the act is total fantasy and no human being is used, degraded or hurt by the act. A sex doll is the ultimate sex ‘object’ or masturbation tool.

She added the initiative was “a fetish for many men and women who wish to return to a childhood lacking in affection”.

I think this prostitute is kidding herself if she genuinely thinks that prostitution is about affection. Men may enjoy having the paid undivided attention of a prostitute and afterwards may enjoy talking to her about their problems (much like women talk to their hairdressers) but their prime reason for paying for sexual release is not affection.

The sex-affection of a person can not be provided by a doll. […] They do not communicate. They do not listen to you or caress you, they do not comfort you or look at you. They do not give you their opinion or drink […]

Prostitutes and Sex robots both provide a fantasy for masturbation and sexual release. The main difference between the two is that only one of them risks degrading and hurting a real-life human being. In both cases, the sex worker/robot is treated as a sexual object by the client. No amount of listening to his problems, drinking of champagne together or caresses will change that. A prostitute who is a feminist is an oxymoron
