Social Media Witch hunts burn people at the stake without even a trial

The Salem witch trials have nothing on Social media. You don’t even get a trial for tweeting the wrong tweet or liking the wrong article on Facebook these days, you go straight to being fired. Do not pass go do not collect two hundred. You are guilty of having the wrong opinion or offending someone. No evidence is needed, just a few faceless nobodies online pointing accusatory fingers your way and sending angry messages to your employer.

On Sunday, Aug. 27, visiting assistant professor of sociology Kenneth Storey made comments on a private Twitter account that do not reflect UT’s community views or values. We condemn the comments and the sentiment behind them, and understand the pain this irresponsible act has caused.

Storey has been relieved of his duties at UT, and his classes will be covered by other sociology faculty.

This woman dressed up as a victim of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings before coming to work and tweeted about it. She was then fired.

A fireman was fired for this tweet:

This woman who was a Director of Corporate Communications sent the tweet while in a plane and found herself fired by the time the plane had touched down.

These days it is possible to destroy a person’s career by taking the time to scroll through their Facebook and Twitter looking for something that you can claim to be offended by. If you are not self-employed or retired being on social media is a risk not worth taking. Social Media is the SJW’s hunting ground and there is nothing they would like more than chalking up another ” kill.”
