The crime of misgendering

There are a number of reasons why misgendering happens.

For example, people may notice that a person has primary or secondary sex characteristics and make assumptions about that person’s gender.

  • This includes a person’s:
  • facial hair or lack thereof
  • high or low vocal range
  • chest or breast tissue or lack thereof

I find the above list incredibly funny. The only way we have of identifying the sex of a person is the above list. If they have a penis, of course, we will conclude that they are male. That is because a penis is conclusive proof that a person is biologically male. Misgendering is not about making a mistake or being wrong, misgendering is about being right. Despite this, we are told that coming to a biologically accurate conclusion is harmful or even an act of violence.
