Will James Shaw be able to visit USA?

Maybe not, the White House has declared that climate activists are a national security threat.

Radio New Zealand

Breitbart reports that the mainstream media reported Sunday and Monday that President Donald Trump’s new National Security Strategy (NSS) would remove climate change from a list of threats to national security.
But the document, (p22) released Monday, does more than that. It identifies efforts to push a climate change agenda as a potential threat to national security.

Climate policies will continue to shape the global energy system. U.S. leadership is indispensable to countering an anti-growth energy agenda that is detrimental to U.S. economic and energy  security interests. Given future global energy demand, much of the developing world will require fossil fuels, as well as other forms of energy, to power their economies and lift their people out of poverty.  The United States will continue to advance an approach that balances energy security, economic development, and environmental protection.  The United States will remain a global leader in reducing traditional pollution, as well as greenhouse gases, while expanding our economy. This achievement, which can serve as a model to other countries, flows from innovation, technology breakthroughs, and energy efficiency gains, not from onerous regulation.

Note that the NSS does not take a position on the scientific debate about whether climate change is happening, what its causes are, and what can be done about it. Rather, it simply notes that some of the efforts to stop climate change are harmful to the United States.

The implication is that shutting down key energy sources, such as coal and oil, reduces American economic growth while also leaving the U.S. vulnerable to disruptions in energy supply.

As a remedy, the NSS proposes a balanced approach — “energy security, economic development, and environmental protection,” in that order. It does not reject doing what may be necessary to protect the planet, or to mitigate impacts that may arise from a changing climate. But it insists that those measures must not be at the expense of America’s national security or economic health.

So the NSS does more than drop the Obama administration’s attempt to graft environmentalism onto national defense. It suggests that radical environmentalism is actually a national security threat. In that sense, Trump’s new policy is even more audacious than his critics suggest.

WUWT highlights a link between the Green Taliban and the other Taliban as reported by Reuters.

Osama bin Laden wrote a letter calling on the American people to help President Barack Obama fight “catastrophic” climate change and “save humanity”, in the latest evidence of his worries about environmental issues, newly released documents show.

The letter was among materials that were seized in the May 2, 2011, U.S. raid on bin Laden’s hideout in Pakistan that killed the al Qaeda chief and which were released [in 2016] by the Obama administration.

The undated, unsigned letter “to the American people,” which U.S. intelligence officials attributed to bin Laden, appeared to have been written shortly after Obama began his first term in 2009, based on the letter’s references to events.
Bin Laden’s preoccupation with climate change also emerged as a theme in the first tranche of documents from the raid that was declassified in May 2015, as well as in an audio recording released via the al Jazeera network in January 2010.[…]

[…] That would enable Obama to make “a rational decision to save humanity from the harmful gases that threaten its destiny,” bin Laden continued.[…]

[…]Bin Laden contended that the world would be better off fighting climate change than waging what he claimed was a war against Islam.

“…the world should put its efforts into attempting to reduce the release of gases,” said the undated, unsigned letter to someone identified as Shaykh Mahmud that U.S. intelligence officials said they believed was written by bin Laden.

“This is a struggle between two of the largest cultures on Earth, and it is in the shadow of catastrophic climate conditions.”

Who knew dear old Osama was so concerned about our future?

Can we not find an island “paradise” somewhere for all these anti-“fossil” fuel luddites to go and live out their own little fantasy, well out of the way of we normal people who enjoy the progress of humanity and all the benefits that abundant energy provides?

James, I am looking to you to setup your “zero carbon economy”, totally free of “fossil” fuel, somewhere else and when it is a shining successful example for the rest of the world to emulate come back and tell us all about it.  (Oh, and, take the rest of your team with you – there’s a good lad.)
