Hamas ratbag blows his own head off…supposedly

Good news, a Hamas ratbag seems to have had an unfortunate accident:

Senior Hamas official Imad al-Alami died on Tuesday, some three weeks after he allegedly shot himself in the head, the Hamas-linked al-Rai reported. He was 62.

Alami, who was also known as Abu Hamam, was regarded as a hard-liner and a supporter of Hamas’s ties with Iran.

The senior Hamas official died of his gunshot wound at the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, where he was treated in intensive care for the past three weeks, the report said.

On January 9, Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said Alami shot himself in the head “while examining his personal weapon in his home.”

Hamas run Interior Ministry Spokesman Iyad Bozm added that Alami “mistakenly” opened fire on himself.

Alami, a civil engineer by training, has been a Hamas member since the late 1980s and was the first Hamas representative in Tehran.

In 2012, he returned to Gaza after spending a number of years outside of the Palestinian territories.

The following year, Alami was elected as deputy Hamas chief in Gaza, a position that he held until early 2017.

Riiiight…

Isherman points out:

Scratch one more senior Hamas member, always welcome news, although I don’t believe for a minute he accidentally shot himself while cleaning or playing with his gun.
If I was a betting man I’d say a chap called, Fathi Hamad might well know exactly how this accident happened. What the article doesn’t mention is this guy already has no legs. The first official reason given was that he was injured in an operation Protective Edge airstrike, and had them amputated (in Turkey). About a month later it changed and he fell out of an elevator during the same operation. Some time later still, the real reason for his amputations came out. During the said operation he got into a nasty fight with the the then Internal Affairs Minister, Fathi Hamad, whose supporters sorted things out in the proper time honoured Hamas tradition, and threw him out of a window. In Hamas politics, these things are never accidents.

Greg M has another possible answer to the riddle of this ratbag’s death:

Personally, I agree with Isherman. Hamas has a bad habit of sorting out their own.
