P is for Politics P is for Pregnancy

It is official. The world has gone mad. A woman gets pregnant (which is an everyday occurrence) and the MSM and others can write about nothing else. According to the media headlines, this everyday miracle is…

  • good news for working families everywhere
  • proving women can have a baby and a career
  • providing NZ with a kiwi royal family
  • Trailblazing
  • sends a message on gender equality
  • has implications for NZ’s future social policy
  • will reduce gender inequality
  • will normalise what it means to be a “modern” family
  • a timely reminder about pay equity
  • a political pregnancy
  • a “power” pregnancy
  • showing us that Jacinda Ardern is a superwoman
  • one of a list of firsts for the PM
  • what we the voting public needed
  • a chance for Winston Peters to be Prime Minister
  • a reason for Jacindamania to spread to the rest of the world
  • a landmark for women’s rights in NZ
  • a historic moment
  • an inspiration for a generation
  • a symbol of the generational clash
  • good news
  • has brought out sexist Baby busy-bodies
  • shows sexists that Jacinda Ardern is made for motherhood and being PM
  • will upset the nation’s electorate
  • will win the Labour party the next election
  • will upset National strategists attack plans
  • empowers the rest of us
  • will lift children out of capitalism
  • a hit overseas and in NZ
  • seen as a positive by politicians

That is quite a list of achievements for a pregnancy caused by an unmarried man knocking his better half up don’t you think?

I looked at the headlines collected and published by Bryce Edwards and compared the number of pregnancy headlines with the number of political headlines. Bear in mind that Bryce Edwards’ summary of Media headlines is called NZ Politics Daily, not NZ Pregnancy Daily.

There are 99 posts on the topic of pregnancy and a total of 29 posts on political topics which percentage wise is 77% on pregnancy and only 23% on politics.
