Popular shows “Big Bang Theory” and “Friends” unacceptable to Generation Snowflake

When I read the article condemning one of the most long-running and popular shows on Television, Friends, now that it has been re-released on Netflix I immediately thought of The Big Bang Theory. The Big Bang Theory like Friends has been running forever and is wildly popular. The problem is that Big Bang Theory like” Friends” shouldn’t be popular according to the dictates of Generation Snowflake.

The characters in the Big Bany Theory are a bunch of lovable male misfits who are all friends and who are all academically very clever. Socially they are awkward so when a socially adept and physically attractive woman comes into their life fun ensues. The premise is that they all need each other and learn from and help each other. Penny is not bright academically but she is wise in the ways of the world and helps guide the men through life. In turn, they welcome her into their group and support her as she struggles to make a living as an actress. It is a nerds version of the show Friends and it is perfectly harmless unless you view it through the eyes of generation snowflake.

According to the killjoy who reviews The Big Bang theory in the video below all the male stereotypes in the show are examples of misogyny. He totally ignores the fact that the men all rely on Penny’s guidance and that her emotional intelligence is superior to theirs. In many ways, she is like a mother to them guiding them and listening to their problems. When she needs them they are always there for her. In one show she was broke and in serious need of money. The most socially limited character Shelden hands her a fat wad of cash. She is shocked and amazed that he would help her like that but he is a logical person. He responds. You need money I have money. Take as much as you need.

WARNING: If you are a fan of Big Bang Theory like I am be prepared to be lectured to and your favourite characters dissected and destroyed by a self-righteous academic and killjoy. Society has changed since the eighties (obviously) but some things are still funny because stereotypes are still funny.

What comes through to me from the academics review of the show is that he is sorry for being a man, particularly a white man. These poor characters cannot catch a break. They are already unlikely to be lucky in love because they are so socially awkward but he condemns them for their awkward attempts to interact with the only attractive and emotionally intelligent woman in their lives.

His review of all T.V and movie nerds in general from the eighties is that they are all rapists and bad people. What they are, are comedic stereotypes taken to extremes in order to be funny. They are also reflections of the time in which the show or movie was made. Yes, it is technically rape when a nerd disguises himself in order to have gentle, romantic sex with a woman but her reaction afterwards saying that he “was wonderful” makes the “rape” funny.

The only scene from a movie where the “rape” wasn’t funny was where the young teen character has drunken sex with an older teen character. They were both drunk so technically he took advantage of her while she was drunk but he too was drunk. In fact neither are sure in the morning if they even had sex. She confirms that they had in the end and kisses him so again. Technically this scene was a “rape” scene as he was underage and he was unable to give consent due to being so drunk. However, the reviewer ignores this and says that the younger character male took advantage of the drunk older character and ” raped” her without her consent.

If the show Friends was made today and the show Big Bang Theory was re written to suit Generation snowflake there would still be stereotypes because they are essential for humour. The only thing that would change would be who the show would be making fun of. I guarantee that the butt of all the jokes would be straight white males and females while the protagonists would be gender queer, transgender, fruit loops who identify as black, Chinese,twenty-year-old lesbian men because there is absolutely nothing funny about identity politics.
