Associate Minister of Education Kelvin Davis takes a leaf out of ex-PM John Key’s book

Does anyone in Labour remember these cartoons? They mocked John Key for saying that when he communicated with our Editor he did so in his personal capacity, not as the Prime Minister. (Cameron’s father is ex-National Party President John Slater, who was the person responsible for recruiting John Key).

Now that the boot is on the other foot and Labour are in power, both Associate Education Minister Kelvin Davis and Education Minister Chris Hipkins are furiously defending him “working closely” with two Charter schools by claiming that he was not wearing his Associate Education Minister’s hat when he did so.

If it wasn’t acceptable to Labour for John Key to talk to anyone separate from his position as the Prime Minister then they cannot now claim that Kelvin Davis was not wearing his Associate Minister of Education hat when he was “working closely” with two of the three Charter schools in his electorate – when Chris Hipkins had stated that all discussions with Charter schools would be with Ministry officials only.
