THE DAMAGE INFLICTED on the Green Party by Metiria Turei’s death-or-glory charge against the MSD was not, funnily enough, inevitable. Had her story not been so vulnerable to media scrutiny and had Andrew Little not propelled Jacinda into the Labour leadership, then Metiria might have carried the Greens to an historic result. But, it was and he did, and so the Greens were very lucky to survive the 2017 General Election in one piece – let alone as participants in government.

The question facing the party now is: what lessons should be drawn from the near-death-experience . . .
