Don’t tell lies, you will be found out!

That’s what diligent parents teach their children. But cunning kids learn that they don’t always get caught out and Hillary Clinton is one of those who thought she could lie and get away with it.

This time she has been fingered. Hillary is financially associated with the culprits in the Russian smear campaign against Trump.  According to Zero Hedge they are:

  • Fusion GPS [which was] was paid $1,024,408 by DNC law firm Perkins Coie, which acted as an intermediary for Hillary Clinton and the DNC, to create the salacious 34-page dossier.
  • Fusion [which] paid former British spy Christopher Steele $168,000 to assemble the document (which had the cooperation of two senior Kremlin officials).
  • Clinton campaign manager John Podesta [who] met with Fusion CEO Glenn Simpson the day after the 34-page dossier was made public.

Fusion GPS is a research and strategic intelligence firm based in Washington where it conducts open-source investigations and provides research and strategic advice and is known to provide information to political candidates.

After Trump became the Republican nominee, Clinton and the Democratic National Committee retained Fusion GPS through lawyer Marc Elias and his firm, Perkins Coie.

It’s unclear what Fusion GPS had dug up by the time Perkins Coie hired it or how much money was involved in the transaction. The Clinton campaign and the DNC paid Perkins Coie more than $9 million – although it’s uncertain how much of that money, if any, went toward the dossier.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC funded the project until October 2016 – right before the election.

Fusion GPS employed ex-British intelligence officer Christopher Steele in June 2017 to prepare the dossier.  Steele admitted “he was desperate Donald Trump not get elected and was passionate about him not being president.”

Others with an axe to grind against Trump were “one Department of Justice (DOJ) official fired by Trump and another he [Trump] had lost confidence in.”  The memo also revealed Fusion GPS employed Nancy Ohr, the wife, of senior DOJ official Bruce Ohr at the time the dossier was being worked on.  Bruce Ohr also had contact with Christopher Steele before and after the election.

Steele’s dossier, along with other documents, was the basis for the DOJ authorising the FBI to investigate Trump’s alleged collusion with the Russians via Trump’s former campaign adviser Carter Page.

The DOJ was empowered by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA, which governs nearly all surveillance and intelligence collection on U.S. soil.  FISA was passed after abuses by President Richard Nixon and his predecessors were exposed in the 1970s in several landmark congressional investigations.

It almost worked. In fact, here in NZ, you’d think there were solid grounds for linking Trump with the Russians. If you believe our media, that is.  Some of us with more suspicious minds and aware of Hilary’s previous abuses of power wondered if she was behind the smear campaign against Trump. The old adage “those in glass houses….”

The GOP memo declassified on Friday accused senior law enforcement officials of misleading a court in order to conduct surveillance on a former Trump campaign adviser, fueling a growing distrust between the White House and Republicans on one side and the Justice Department and FBI on the other.

The memo alleges that a surveillance warrant was obtained and renewed on a former Trump campaign adviser, Carter Page, with information from an individual with an anti-Trump agenda. And Republicans have charged that the warrant taints the origins of special counsel Robert S. Muller III’s investigation into possible coordination between Trump associates and agents of the Russian government during the 2016 campaign.

The dissemination of half-truths tears at the very fabric of the American democratic process. There was no Russian collusion by Trump.  It was a smoke screen to disempower Trump and force him to relinquish the presidency.

Although unsuccessful, Hillary and the Democrats did achieve a “divide and conquer” campaign against the DOJ, the FBI and the American people.  Now they can sit back and watch them scrap it out in public.
