After Helen Clark was deposed by John Key in2008 I started to analyse her political abilities. I loathed her politics, but admired her abilities.

There is much to learn from Helen Clark, particularly for the National party.

Helen Clark had a tough job in convincing people to vote Labour after they were badly burned by the Lange/Douglas era. In order to succeed in toppling the Bolger/Shipley era she had a number of things she needed to do to rebuild Labour.

The first task was to create the impression that Labour was competent and a government in waiting . . .
