Two polls agree on the most popular choice for National’s new leader

The below graph shows that, of the people who voted for National at the last election:

  • 29% of them want Judith Collins as National Party leader
  • 23% of them want Steven Joyce
  • 19% of them want Mark Mitchell
  • 15% want Amy Adams and
  • 15% want Simon Bridges.

Of those voters who didn’t vote for National at the last election but who would vote for them today:

  • 24% Want Mark Mitchell as National leader 
  • 23% want Judith Collins
  • 19% want Steven Joyce
  • 17% want Amy Adams and
  • 16% want Simon Bridges.

So, how did the results of our Whaleoil poll compare to the Horizon poll?

The order was identical to the Horizon poll for those who voted for National at the last election, and even Adams and Bridges coming fourth equal was the same:

  • first place with 80% Judith Collins
  • second place with 9% Steven Joyce
  • third place with 7% Mark Mitchell
  • fourth place with 2% both Amy Adams and Simon Bridges
