Ooops she did it again: Three requirements only for Charter schools says PM

PM Jacinda Ardern makes the secret Whaleoil hand signal WO

I can’t help but wonder if the left-hand knows what the left hand is doing in the Labour party. This is at least the second public announcement from Jacinda Ardern that contradicts her Education Ministers stated intention in a press release to ” terminate” Charter schools. Apparently, all they have to do to avoid being assigned to the scrap heap and to transition smoothly to a new model is to do three things that they are already doing!

The three requirements were read out by Winston Peters on her behalf.

The existing Partnership Schools will continue so long as they have registered teachers, teach the New Zealand curriculum and have the same level of funding as State schools.

The charter schools will be thrilled to hear that as it means that they will get a whole lot more money for establishment and expansion. However, the statement ignores the flaws in the Special character legislation that will prevent schools who fulfil all three criteria from transitioning to a Union approved, State school model.Yet again, contrary to what her Minister of Education Chris Hipkins has said, the PM has indicated that NO OTHER requirements are being forced on them by the government.
