Investigative journalism in the social-media age

Recently some popular investigative journalists have come under attack. What they all have in common is that they:

a) are conservative journalists

b) have not had journalistic training.

What they do have in spades is:

  • the drive to seek out the stories, where other journalists fear to tread
  • the desire to shine sunlight into dark corners
  • the ability to tell the story in a way that appeals to a large audience
  • access to non-traditional media outlets
  • access to non-traditional funding and
  • balls the size of watermelons because they are all being harassed and threatened due to what they do.
