Our new free service: Audio blogs

Last year a reader wrote to us with a great idea. He suggested that we find a way to turn all our written blog posts into audios. His initial idea was to get volunteers to read them aloud and record them but we wanted to offer audio access the same time the article published.

Long story short we have put time and money into a solution and are now rolling audio access out. Audio will soon be available on all of our written posts.

As you can see from the changes to the blog we are investing subscription revenue back into the blog to increase the number of services we can offer our readers and now our listeners as well.

A big thank you to the hundreds of subscribers who are enabling Whaleoil to continue to grow and improve.

Our realistic sounding blog readers all have names. Just for fun on a satirical guest post about Russians later today I chose Maxim who is a Russian to read the post. Sadly Maxim does not speak English so he will translate it into Russian for our Russian readers. ( Yes we know you read us religiously Putin. You are very welcome)

My favourite readers are both British and they are called Amy and Brian. I also like Russell who is an Aussie. He is the guy currently reading this post aloud to you if you have scrolled to the bottom to press play.

Now you can listen to Whaleoil while doing other things. If your eyesight isn’t what it used to be you can relax and listen to your favourite blog instead. Eventually, the audios will be able to be listened to in other more convenient ways so watch this space.

I will now get Russell to say a few words to you.

Hi, I’m Russell and I hope you enjoyed listening to me. I just wanted to say that the pavlova was invented by we Aussies not you Kiwis but I won’t hold that against you all.

If you agree with me that’s nice, but what I really want to achieve is to make you question the status quo, look between the lines and do your own research. Do not be a passive observer in this game we call life.
