Face of the day

There’s not much doubt about Clare Curran’s lie-ability or her ham-fistedness. In addition to which she seems to be setting records, having breached the Cabinet manual three times already in only six months: firstly, inappropriately endorsing a commercial product through media; then injudiciously commenting on a police investigation; both of which were mere undercards to the latest foray into mendaciousness surrounding her disclosures.

But credit should also be given when it’s due; she’s a masterful hypocrite and a comedian to boot. Accordingly, I nominate two of Clare’s statements as contenders for Quote of the Day. The first from a 2015 press release of hers criticising the Minister for Broadcasting over ‘interference’ in Maori Television’s affairs:

“His defensive, clumsy and inadequate responses speak volumes. The Government should be asking itself whether he’s fit to hold the Ministerial warrant,” Clare Curran says.”

End of quote:

The second from 29 November 2017, in answer to a Parliamentary question (health warning: wrap your ribs; this is side-splittingly hilarious):

Hon CLARE CURRAN: Thank you, Mr Speaker. My priority is that this will be the most open, most transparent Government that New Zealand has ever had.

Clare Curran: Defensive, clumsy, inadequate. Very transparent.

Please don’t resign.
