If this muppet really wants to make a splash he could stop flying everywhere

Gareth Hughes is big on virtue signalling. He’s released the above video about climate change, basically telling us to stop oil exploration and leave all that wealth and progress in the ground.

The whole video is a sham from beginning to end. For a start, the random pouring of random bits of water into a glass is somehow supposed to be an accurate measurement of CO2. It isn’t even remotely close and I am considering a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority. In particular, I believe the advertisement contravenes advertising making environmental claims and the general code of ethics.

Truthful Presentation – Advertisements should not contain any statement or visual presentation or create an overall impression which directly or by implication, omission, ambiguity or exaggerated claim is misleading or deceptive, is likely to deceive or mislead the consumer, makes false and misleading representation, abuses the trust of the consumer or exploits his/her lack of experience or knowledge. (Obvious hyperbole, identifiable as such, is not considered to be misleading).

Then, the travesty of a video is paid for by the taxpayer… see the little Parliamentary Services logo in the top right. You’d think if we were paying for it there would be rules around accuracy.

Now we’ve got those little issues out of the way we can now look at the hypocrisy.

In the video there are the following items that use plastics, which of course are oil-based products:

  • Camera
  • Cellphone
  • Microphone
  • Polyester tie
  • Bucket
  • Raincoat
  • Packing tape
  • Foam mic cover
  • Camera strap
  • Polyester mix shirts and suits
  • Polyester trousers

Of course, Gareth Hughes is also a big user of air travel. If he was serious about not using oil then he should practice what he preaches and stop his air travel and use of any products that use oil-based products or indeed any sort of extractive process. There goes anything with any metal in it… or indeed any modern appliance or convenience.

He won’t, of course, because he is Green; a sanctimonious hypocrite.

As much at home writing editorials as being the subject of them, Cam has won awards, including the Canon Media Award for his work on the Len Brown/Bevan Chuang story. When he’s not creating the news, he tends to be in it, with protagonists using the courts, media and social media to deliver financial as well as death threats.

They say that news is something that someone, somewhere, wants kept quiet. Cam Slater doesn’t do quiet and, as a result, he is a polarising, controversial but highly effective journalist who takes no prisoners.

He is fearless in his pursuit of a story.
