Labour sex scandal under the covers but not forgotten

The government have somehow managed to shut down the Labour camp sex scandal even though complaints have been made to the police by at least one of the four teenagers (male and female) who were sexually assaulted by a 20-year-old male at the alcohol-fueled Young Labour summer camp.

They have managed to hide under the covers:

  • The identity of the 20-year-old male
  • The identity of the four 16-year-old victims; two boys and two girls.

They have also managed to avoid scrutiny and criminal charges even though they did not have a liquor licence for the premises and supplied alcohol to minors. They also failed to adequately supervise the young people in their care as the sole ‘responsible’ adult was in bed when the alleged sexual assaults occurred. Now, after Jacinda Ardern has announced that she has appointed someone to look into their processes (a ridiculous three-month-long investigation), the story has effectively been shut down.

We shouldn’t be surprised though, as the Labour party have form for shutting down stories like this one. Does anyone remember the Swiss ball incident? The Labour politician involved, Darren Hughes, was whisked out of the country and pressure was put on the 18-year-old student who was his alleged victim. The truth was never revealed to the public. The 18-year-old escaped Hughes’ house distressed and naked. It was a huge sexual assault story but the police didn’t charge Hughes.

The police basically said that they believed the complainant had a genuine complaint but they didn’t have enough evidence to pursue a prosecution or to even lay charges. At the time an advocate for male sex-abuse victims told the media that he was worried the outcome would deter other young men and women from coming forward if they believed they had been sexually assaulted. Ironically, the four victims allegedly sexually assaulted at the Young Labour summer camp were ‘supported’ to remain silent and even their parents weren’t told.

Is this sexual scandal going to be the same? Will the public never find out the identity of the 20-year-old male who allegedly assaulted those four teenagers? Will charges against him even be laid? Will Labour get away scot-free despite breaking alcohol laws? Has pressure been brought to bear on the teens and their families to not make a fuss? The silence from them is deafening.

If a 20-year-old young Nat had assaulted four young Labour teens it would be all over the news and the teens would be giving interviews and demanding justice. The current total silence is unnatural and wholly contrived. Labour have something to hide and they are hiding it well, and the victims and their families are, for some reason, complicit in the cover-up.
