Let’s Talk

A reader writes:

Have people ever done any dowsing for water? Some years ago a dairy farmer friend was having big water difficulties, so he had a firm in to try and dig a well. They tried several places without success, and it was causing him a mint of money. Then someone suggested an old man in Morrinsville who could dowse, and he contacted him.  Not only did he say where the water was, but how far down it was, and how great the flow, so they sank a new well there, and it was fine. We visited our friend and he told us of how the man did it, handing me two pieces of number 8 wire with “handles” bent over at the ends.

“Just walk across there somewhere” he instructed, “as you hold the wires on either side of your body, and when you reach the water, they’ll pull together.” Somewhat disbelieving I did so, and he was SO right. As I passed over the other side of the water, the wires opened up again. After that, since I now believed it possible I’ve been able on occasion to easily locate water pipes underground and found it is easier when the water is moving.
I think we all possibly have age-old instincts in our make-up, long forgotten, but still there.
