Let’s tax this

Let’s tax this

Labour party deputy leader Michael Cullen has proposed eight new taxes or types of tax:

  • A financial transactions tax
  • A wealth tax
  • An equalisation tax
  • A capital gains tax
  • A land tax
  • A progressive company tax
  • Environmental taxes
  • Behavioural taxes

Whaleoil reader Totara has helpfully explained them to us.

If you make some money, then you are a rich prick and deserve to have it taken from you through income tax.

If you spend some money, then you are a rich prick and deserve to have it taken from you through Goods and Services Tax.

If you save some money, you are a rich prick and deserve to have it taken from you through income tax on the interest on your bank deposits or dividends on your shares.

If you have a property that rises in value because of a government built railway then you are a rich prick and deserve to have it taken from you through a wealth tax.

If you breed uncontrollably and raise feral kids who will never amount to anything other than to become future Labour voters, then you are truly virtuous and deserve generous handouts from a benevolent Labour government.
