Tech Thursday

With the quality of lenses, processors and techniques improving so much in smartphones, we seem to have forgotten that there can be a lot of advantages in using a good ?old-fashioned? camera. I say old-fashioned more because of the device it is, rather than the reality. In truth, cameras designed to take still and moving images have developed at least as fast as those in smartphones, and I think there?s still a place for a camera – particularly if going off-road, under water or off the beaten track somewhere that your precious Samsung or iPhone will not really like.

A good example is the Olympus Tough TG-5 Waterproof Camera. It?s possibly the best waterproof (up to a depth of 15 m) camera available today. It has great image quality, the ability to capture 4K video, and a rich set of available features. They include a built-in thermometer, Wi-Fi connectivity, and intuitive controls. The gadget is also crushproof, so perfect for those off-road trips (hunting perhaps?) where you want to capture the atmosphere, and a smartphone just isn?t going to do it.
