Free speech is… what I say it will be

We all understand how important free speech is. Even left-wing London Mayor Sadiq Khan approved the flying of the Trump blimp in London because he said he had no right to stop it, as it was a question of free speech. To me, insulting the president of the United States is probably pushing the boundaries, but I can see his point of view. The people of London must feel very relieved that they have a mayor who clearly cares so deeply about such issues.

Although, I have to admit, there has been no word so far on when the Khan baby blimp is going to fly over London. Last I heard it was going to the mayor for approval. But, he can’t say no, can he? It is a free-speech issue and he believes in free speech.

Except, of course, he doesn’t. Like Phil Goff, his idea of free speech is anything that he agrees with. If he doesn’t agree with it, then it is not free speech.

He allowed the Trump blimp but banned adverts like this one on the London Underground.

Yes. He said it was because of body shaming. But, I wonder if it is because he is a Muslim, and they don’t like women to show any flesh at all?

Well, it is a reasonable question.

He allowed the street protests against Donald Trump’s visit to go ahead. There could have been riots, or violence, or any sort of public violation. However, free speech allows everyone to express an opinion, even a repugnant one. I agree, although there is a risk with these things that they can turn ugly.

But then, there was this.

So, it is okay to protest Donald Trump’s visit, because the mayor doesn’t like him (ain’t that the truth!), but a rally intended to welcome Donald Trump to London is banned… by the Public Order Act?

Breitbart reports: Quote:

Protestors attending the ‘Welcome Trump’ event had planned to gather outside the embassy and march from there to Whitehall, where they would have joined in with a separate ‘Free Tommy Robinson’ event in support of the activist and independent journalist who was recently imprisoned for contempt of court after reporting on a grooming gang trial.

But the Metropolitan Police Force, which answers to a large extent to Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, used the Public Order Act to impose a raft of restrictions on both groups of protesters which made this impossible —  despite allowing far larger anti-Trump protests at which at least six people were arrested to go ahead on Saturday, with demonstrators carrying signs emblazoned with harsh profanity and messages such as “Die Trump Die”. End quote.

In what world is it okay to carry a sign saying, “Die Trump Die” which, as far as I am concerned, is inciting violence against the President, (so it is NOT free speech) but a welcoming rally is forbidden because… because…?Quote:

Mayor Khan actively encouraged the anti-Trump protests, and was active in the media defending his decision to authorise an “obscene” balloon caricaturing the U.S. President on grounds of freedom of speech and the right to protest. End quote.

Noooooo… it was free speech. He said so. People have to be allowed free speech. He has no right to stop it.

Unless…Quote:

“But as soon as probably only a few thousand of us want to protest in favour of Trump and show our support for the leader of the free world, we are banned, we are silenced, and we are censored.” End quote.

Nooooo… it was free speech. He said so. People have to be allowed free speech. He has no right to stop it… oh, wait…

Free speech is dead in London. Their first Muslim mayor has seen to that. Love or hate Trump, he is still the President of the United States of America. If London were invaded tomorrow, who would be the first ones there to help? You guessed it. The blimp would order his planes, aircraft carriers, submarines and personnel over in a heartbeat to save the situation. He wouldn’t even blink. In spite of the fact that he has been insulted from every possible angle since his arrival in Britain.

Free speech is dead here too. Phil Goff, Mayor of Auckland has seen to that. Now, we can only attend concerts and events approved by him. What if he decides he doesn’t like Dire Straits? What if he decides he doesn’t like Rowan Atkinson?

What if he decides he doesn’t like Simon Bridges?
