The ballad of NZ Charter schools: Will we stay or will we go?

Credit: Luke

This is the week that the students, families, staff and communities of South Auckland Middle school and Middle School West Auckland finally hear about their promised “easy transition” to a Designated Character school. Quote:

At this point the process has only been one formal meeting with the ministry (Feb 13th), the ministry has not been prepared to share the advice they have given to the Minister but he has not asked for any additional information beyond our comprehensive applications so we trust that all is on track.

Our students and their families – and 60 employees – have certainly been on tenterhooks – so we are very much looking forward to and end to the uncertainty! End quote.

The Ballad of New Zealand Charter schools: Will we stay or will we go?

Ministry of Education you got to let me know
Will we stay or will we go?

If you give us an ‘easy transition’
We’ll be relieved by your decision.

So you got to let us know
Can we stay or do we go?

It’s always tease, tease, tease
You’re happy when we’re on our knees

One day it’s fine and next it’s black
So if you want us off your back

Well, come on and let us know
Can we stay or must we go?
