Learning lessons from Lenin

In A New Dictionary of Quotations on Historical Principles from Ancient and Modern Sources selected and edited by H. L. Mencken, Lenin is quoted as having said in a speech in Moscow in 1920: Quote.

Why should freedom of speech and freedom of the press be allowed? Why should a government which is doing what it believes to be right allow itself to be criticized? It would not allow opposition by lethal weapons. Ideas are much more fatal things than guns. Why should any man be allowed to buy a printing press and disseminate pernicious opinions calculated to embarrass the government? End of quote

In 1921 Lenin wrote a letter to G. Myasnikov that indicated the press would be purchased and used for advantage by capitalists: Quote.

All over the world, wherever there are capitalists, freedom of the press means freedom to buy up newspapers, to buy writers, to bribe, buy and fake “public opinion” for the benefit of the bourgeoisie.

This is a fact.

No one will ever be able to refute it.

And what about us?

Can anyone deny that the bourgeoisie in this country has been defeated, but not destroyed? That it has gone into hiding? Nobody can deny it.

Freedom of the press in the R.S.F.S.R., which is surrounded by the bourgeois enemies of the whole world, means freedom of political organisation for the bourgeoisie and its most loyal servants, the Memisheviks and Socialist Revolutionaries.

This is an irrefutable fact.

The bourgeoisie (all over the world) is still very much stronger than we are. To place in its hands yet another weapon like freedom of political organisation (= freedom of the press, for the press is the core and foundation of political organisation) means facilitating the enemy’s task, means helping the class enemy. End of quote

Clearly our socialist overlord, “Comrade” Jacinda fully understood this threat and, along with the ctrl-left media, has rewritten Lenin’s words:

All over the world, wherever there are socialists, ‘freedom of the press’ means freedom to buy up newspapers and television channels, to buy writers, to employ useful idiots like Paddy Gower, to bribe, buy and fake “public opinion” for the benefit of the collective.  This is a fact.

No one will ever be able to refute it. And what about us?

Can anyone deny that the conservatives in this country have been beaten, but not destroyed? That free speech has taken a hit? Nobody can deny it.

Freedom of the press and freedom of speech in the Democratic People’s Republic of Aoteoroa, which under the influence of the enemies of the whole world; the social media giants, Facebook, Google and so on, means freedom of political organisation only for the ctrl-left and its most loyal servants, the Auckland Peace Action, The Tamaki Fascists, the Auckland Anarchists etc.

This is an irrefutable fact; ask Phil Goff or Jan Thomas.

The conservatives (all over the world) are still very much stronger than we are. To place in their hands yet another weapon like freedom of political organisation (= freedom of the press, for the press is the core and foundation of political organisation) or freedom of speech means facilitating the enemy’s task, means helping the class enemy.

I grew up in the “reds under the bed” era and having lived in a fantastic country as a member of one of the most fortunate generations in history, I find it desperately sad to realise that the reds are no longer under the bed, they now pontificate from the corridors of power about how proud they are that the mob has closed down free speech in the Democratic People’s Republic of Aotearoa.
