Cows week

In the lead up to this Sunday’s cows4me tribute article, we would like to bring you some cows themed content, to honour our departed friend and commenter who was a Taranaki farmer.

The first article, although Taranaki related, is also based around a topic close to our hearts here on Whaleoil, as it seems that Taranaki was the first place in the country to introduce a cat cull, although others have followed suit since.

This comes from a Whaleoil article from June last year. quote:

A death threat against neighbourhood cats – hand-delivered to letterboxes – has left residents of a quiet North Taranaki cul-de-sac on high alert

Typed and distributed by an unknown person, the residents of Becklands Pl in Inglewood found the note on Sunday morning.

Short and to the point, it said: “Cat Poison will be laid around Becklands Place next week and every week until the stray cats are brought under control. Please ensure your cats don’t stray from your property”. End quote.

All cats stray from their owners’ properties.

Fellow Becklands Pl resident Rebecca Farquhar agreed and said the discovery of the note had been a “little bit disturbing.”

The Farquhars don’t even have a cat, but they do own a small dog. quote.

“We’ve never had any issues with stray cats, or any cats, on the property. It’s very strange,” Farquhar said. end quote.

Very distressing, as we know. Domestic cats will be caught up in this cull, as well as stray and feral cats. This has become a bigger issue in the last year or so, but it turns out that Taranaki was on to it first.

And what did cows4me have to say about it?

Well, Iglewood is a quiet sort of place, after all.

Come to think of it, I’m not sure that cows4me was crazy about cats. Here is another comment of his, from Backchat in November last year:

Not only was he not crazy about cats, he obviously wasn’t crazy about Korean food either. I can relate to that – far too much cabbage for anyone’s good.

Here is another, cat related comment from November last year:

No, he definitely wasn’t keen on cats. He wasn’t keen on socialists either.
