Conservatism feels like modern day leprosy

Along with leprosy, now known as Hansen’s Disease, also came the illness’s stigmas. Falsely believed to be highly infectious, in 1865 the Kingdom of Hawaii decided on a policy of mandatory quarantine. Victims of the disease were to be removed from their communities and isolated on one of the smaller islands.

As a conservative woman, these last few years have been a little scary. I have come to see the left hate anything or anyone who is conservative. I don’t mean low-grade hate but really high octane fuelled hate.

The whole debate about the appointment by President Donald Trump of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court has confirmed my worst fears. If he had been a liberal I suspect that there would have been no objection to his appointment. Even the mainstream media in New Zealand appear to always link Christine’s Ford’s testimony and the drive to stop his appointment to his conservative views.

I am astounded by this as I don’t think that the coverage should be linking the two issues. Either he did something totally inappropriate and/or illegal or he didn’t. His voting history should be a totally separate debate.

The whole debate about ‘free speech’ is also worrying. Have you noticed how the left is great at slogans about how free speech is okay but then when the free speech under discussion is from a conservative right-leaning position it then becomes ‘hate speech’?

I realise that not all conservatives will tick all the boxes I do.
Here is a list of things I support and that many (yes I know not everyone) feminists and socialists hate…

  • I am unashamedly a Christian
  • Pro-Israel
  • Pro-life (from conception to the grave)
  • Pro-marriage
  • Pro-family
  • Pro-monarchy
  • I am a believer that everyone is born either male or female
  • I dare to say that I support Donald Trump (while being fully aware that he isn’t perfect)
  • Finally, I support Simon Bridges and Judith Collins (notice how the left hate them) and again I realise neither is perfect

That said, isn’t it funny how socialist leaders are often deified in the mainstream media?

I believe that I should love my enemies, including giving them a fair hearing, but I suspect that even that would be deemed to be a weakness by the left.
