Oiler Sumps and smokehouse drama

Thanks to the superb organising skills of Deb around 40 Auckland based Oilers got together in two locations at the Horse & Trap and the Merchant Bar in Albany on Wednesday and Thursday night.

It says something about you Oilers, that you are prepared to turn up to a gathering in a pub, where there are a few groups, where you don’t know anybody by sight!

There were of course a few lost sheep but they all managed to find their way to the gathering, sometimes after a few drinks…

How refreshing and relaxing it was to get together with people I had never met before (in many cases) knowing that they all think the same way I do. Of course the topics of conversation covered the usual topics and interestingly the social aspect of getting together is somewhat reassuring as many of us don’t have the luxury of enough social occasions where we can freely share our opinions!

The evening eats were sponsored by the Whale Meat Company and ham was on the menu.   Both venues provided platters of warm Whale Meat ham, the purpose of which was so that everyone could taste the quality of the Whale Meat ham.  Suffice to say that ordering a Christmas ham from the Whale Meat Company isn’t stressful if you know you will be getting a great tasting ham for Christmas.

The Boss made time after his day in court to attend both gatherings and it was great to catch up on some of his political insights.

Thanks again to all the Oilers that attended both sumps and to Deb for doing the organising!

Smokehouse Drama:

Our Whale Meat Company hams are cured then smoked in our own smokehouse with our special mix of Kanuka and Manuka woodchips. Unfortunately, we have had to cope with a breakdown in the smokehouse and had to wait for a specially made part! This combined with our strict QC testing has resulted in delays for existing orders. We are back up and running now and catching up. We will keep everyone informed and we sincerely apologise  for this unforeseen delay.
