Open letter to Golriz Ghahraman

Green party list MP Golriz Ghahraman strikes a pose

I have just read the article in ?Vice Media? headlined ?Biography as a Battleground?, which you are indeed aware, is an interview with your good self outlining your journey through life. You were so impressed with the article you made the claim that ?It blew me away, and made me cry? adding ?It’s a touch nerve wrecking knowing a real-life journalist is looking into your life but it really blew me away with what it captured?. However, what really blew me away though, is that you agreed to an interview with Vice considering your relentless claims of society’s continued exploitation of women.

Let me enlighten you. Quote:

On December 23, 2017, The New York Times reported that there have been four settlements involving allegations of sexual harassment or defamation against Vice employees. In addition, over twenty other women stated that they had experienced or witnessed sexual misconduct, including unwanted kisses, groping, lewd remarks and propositions for sex, at the company. In a statement provided to The New York Times, Vice co-founders Shane Smith and Suroosh Alvi said, “from the top down, we have failed as a company to create a safe and inclusive workplace where everyone, especially women, can feel respected and thrive. End quote.

So where was your moral compass this time? Here you had the opportunity to put the boot into a ?real? issue but you chose to turn a blind eye. Vanity will always trump rhetoric as ?Vice? will always trump Ghahraman. It appears, as a reoccurring theme, that any platform for self-promotion is acceptable. I’m not a woman, but if I was, I would feel a deep sense of betrayal that you would sell yourself so cheaply to a media organisation so steeped in the sexual abuse of female employees.

Take this example for instance. You tweeted quote:

God what is going on in America? Looking at that senate hearing just made me cry. Imagine having to prove your sexual assault in the face of a raging powerful abuser – or he will get to sit on your nation’s law-making body for life, making the rules for all victims & abusers. end quote.

As a lawyer, you know how wrong and immature that comment is. There was no case to answer, unlike your new best friends at Vice where all the allegations were proven and acknowledged but you chose to ignore them in the game of self-promotion. An innocent man made you cry with rage, a guilty organisation made you cry for joy. You wonder why you generate such negative responses. You bring it on yourself, and this is why very few people take you seriously.
