Today in 1968, “Cheap Thrills” by Big Brother And The Holding Company went to number 1 on the US album chart.

Died today in 1971, songwriter, singer guitarist and rock pioneer Gene Vincent (Vincent Craddock), from a perforated ulcer, aged 36.

Today in 1973, Elton John was awarded a Gold record for his double album, “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”.

Today in 1975, Rod Stewart performed for the last time with Faces.

Died today in 1985, Ricky Wilson, songwriter, guitarist and founding member of the B-52s, aged 32.

Released today in 1996, some 28 years after it was recorded “The Rolling Stones’ Rock And Roll Circus”.

Died today in 1999, singer, songwriter and harmonica player Frank Frost, of a heart attack aged 63.

Died today in 2009, Dickie Peterson singer, songwriter and bassist with Blue Cheer from liver cancer aged 63.

Died today in 2011, Joel ‘Taz’ DiGregorio, keyboard player and songwriter with the Charlie Daniels Band, in a car accident. He co-wrote “The Devil Went Down To Georgia”
