Jacinda receives death threats

I saw this story on the news on Tuesday evening, and if this is true, then it is reprehensible. I may not be a fan of Jacinda, but death threats are a whole new level. A level we should not be stooping to here in New Zealand, in any way, shape or form.

Newshub reports: quote

Newshub can reveal that the Prime Minister has received multiple threats from anti-1080 extremists – including at least one threatening her life.

Violence and threats of violence by the fringe protesters have spiked, and Jacinda Ardern says she has serious concerns for the safety of Department of Conservation (DoC) workers.

A peaceful anti-1080 protest was held down the road from the Labour Party conference over the weekend, well away from Ms Ardern and her family.

She told Newshub she’s received at least one death threat from anti-1080 extremists. end quote.

If this is true, then it is truly disgraceful. You all know I am not a fan of Jacinda, but death threats are a different story. Yes, I know feelings run high over 1080. But threatening to kill the prime minister, when she never actually started the programme anyway, is just beyond a joke. quote.

One person posted on DoC’s Facebook page warned that if their own daughter was poisoned by 1080, “I myself will find each of you DoC muppets and slaughter the skin off your faces and have you living inches before death.” end quote.

Yes, I understand, but at least at this stage, I assume your daughter is OK, as of today. So we don’t need to make threats on people’s lives for events that may never actually happen. I’m not saying this person threatened the prime minister’s life, but gee… this whole issue is getting more than a little out of hand…. as we know when dead birds that were NOT poisoned by 1080 were thrown on the steps of parliament by 1080 protestors. Something doesn’t seem quite right there. quote.

Threats and harassment against DoC staff have shot up this year. In January, five incidents were recorded. That number peaked at 93 incidents last month, but DoC is being more robust in its reporting.

Ms Ardern says the Government welcomes protest, but it’s gone too far.

“When we see that tip into violence or threats of violence against people working on the front line and doing their job, then that concerns me.” end quote.

Oh God… look, I never support the prime minister, but this is just totally out of hand. Predators have got out of control in the bush, and there is no doubt that 1080 does an effective job, at least to some extent, to control predators. I would never say, for one second, that 1080 is a panacea. I wish it was.

I own a lifestyle property on the West Coast of the South Island. There is a dairy farm close by, and we receive notifications of 1080 drops on a regular basis on our property.? In the last 8 years, the bird life has mushroomed. We have so many wekas, we really could farm them. It is tempting. In fact, they are becoming a serious problem, because the little so and so’s are taking over the property. They have gone from cute and cuddly to something out of Alfred Hitchcock and this can only be because of 1080 because there can be no other reason.

The 1080 protestors are oblivious to all this. If they are protesting, it must be bad. It must even be bad enough to threaten the life of the prime minister.

You all know I am no fan of Jacinda but she doesn’t deserve death threats. Not over something that is actually doing good for our wildlife.

Not over anything actually.
