Jami-Lee Ross gives his proxy vote to National *UPDATED

GRAHAME COX/STUFF
National MP Jami-Lee Ross.

The furore surrounding Jami-Lee Ross has been somewhat eclipsed by the stupidity of the current government, with Iain Lees-Galloway granting residency to a criminal and Kiwibuild turning into a public relations nightmare.

But as Stuff reports, Jami-Lee Ross is recovering and has provided National with his proxy vote:  Quote:

Embattled former National Party MP Jami-Lee Ross has broken his silence following his recent admission into mental health care, saying he had been well looked after by staff.

He’s also confirmed he’ll continue to vote alongside his former party while he remains on leave from Parliament on medical advice. It would ensure the proportionality of Parliament is maintained and avoids the need for National to trigger the controversial waka-jumping law, that would see Ross ousted from Parliament. End of quote

This is a smart move on his part.  It effectively leaves National with no grounds to use the Electoral (Integrity) Amendment Bill, also known as the waka jumping bill, to oust him.  This means that Jami-Lee Ross will remain in Parliament as an independent MP for the foreseeable future.

That won’t be comfortable at all for Simon Bridges and the National Party.

Update: National has turned his offer down. Will they live to regret this decision?
